Advance sits on the west bank of the Yadkin, a short run down I-40 from Winston-Salem. It is unincorporated, which surprises people given how much has been built there.

What we see in Advance homes
The golf-course neighborhoods are the anchor here. The land began as Ariston Farm in the 1920s. In 1971 a developer named Bill Satterfield bought 690 acres of it and built one of the first golf-course neighborhoods in North Carolina. Bermuda Run incorporated as a town in 1999. Oak Valley, laid out around an Arnold Palmer course, filled in between 1994 and 2015 across sections that include Palmer Ridge, St Andrews, and Suntree.
Houses that back onto a fairway have a specific problem. The rear elevation is mostly glass, it faces an open and reflective mowed surface, and there is foot traffic on it. You want the view, and you do not want to be watched from the tee box. Solar shades handle both. A five percent openness keeps the fairway visible from inside while flattening the glare, and from outside the shade reads as tinted glass.
Kinderton Village, annexed into Bermuda Run in 2012, is denser than the golf sections. Houses sit closer together, porches face each other, and front rooms need real privacy rather than glare control. Top-down bottom-up shades are the usual answer. You drop the top rail for daylight and keep the lower half closed at eye level.
A fair number of homes out here are second residences or belong to people who travel often. Those owners want the house to look lived in and the shades to move on a schedule.
